Summer tomato cultivation becomes popular in Faridpur

Cultivation of hi-breed tomato during summer has become popular particularly among the unemployed youths which led to be self-reliant.
In village Bilmamudpur located in the outskirts of this district town unemployed youths Badruzzaman Bachchu Molla and Haidar Ali are now dreaming to be self-reliant soon by cultivating summer hi-breed tomato invented by Bangladesh Agriculture research Institute(BARI).
According to Bachchu being son of a poor man after passing SSC examination he had been leading a frustrated time having no job or meaningful time passing object.
Suddenly he got attracted and inspired in an agricultural program on TV which was based on hi-breed summer tomato. After that he decided to cultivate summer tomato on his house adjacent 7 decimals of land.
During this time he came in contact of a USAID official who also gave him suggestions as well as some cash of Taka 13 thousand. Bachchu planted 800 saplings on the land but unfortunately 100 saplings died due to some diseases.
As the first harvest he has already harvested 700 kilograms of costly tomato and sold those at the rate varying from Taka 100 to Taka 150 initially. He is expecting earnings of about 2 lakh in the first year because tomato is getting ripening for the second phase.
According to Molla he invested a total Taka 21 thousand for the tomato cultivation.
Learning from Bachchu another unemployed youth of the same village Haidar Ali also has engaged himself in the same cultivation.
According to the both youths they are facing some problems regarding some unknown diseases that caught the tomato plants. However they alleged that they are not getting any substantial suggestions regarding the disease of the plants.
