A Supreme Court lawyer yesterday filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking directives on the government to take necessary steps for controlling Chikungunya in Dhaka city and other affected areas of the country.
The petitioner also prayed the apex court to
issue a rule asking the concerned authorities of the government to explain as to why they should not be directed to take steps for controlling the mosquito borne disease.
The petition says that Chikungunya disease has broken out in an epidemic form in Dhaka North and South City Corporations, Sylhet and Chittagong. The City Corporation authorities and the Health Ministry have not taken any appropriate step to control the disease and thus they violated the fundamental rights of the people.
