UNB, Dhaka :
BNP senior leader ASM Hannan Shah on Monday alleged that political, economic and diplomatic processes are on to ‘grasp Bangladesh like Sikkim’.
Speaking at a discussion, he, however, warned that it will not be possible to grasp Bangladesh as it has patriot armed forces. “Many people tell me when India has goggled
up a country like Sikkim, it won’t take a long time for them to grasp Bangladesh, too. Of course, a process has already begun to grab Bangladesh through politically, economically and diplomatically,” the BNP leader said.
He further said, “We would like to say Bangladesh is not Sikkim as it has its patriot army…they won’t allow it to happen.” Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (Jagpa), a component of the BNP-led 20-party alliance, has arranged the programme at the city’s Photojournalists Association.
Hannan Shah alleged that, the current government does not do anything without India’s signal as it thinks it will be able to perpetuate its power with India’s support.
He claimed that all the countries in the world except India and Russia are talking about restoring democracy in Bangladesh. “We would like to urge India to extend its friendly hands towards Bangladesh people by standing beside them for the restoration of their rights, instead of supporting some collaborators.”
The BNP leader also claimed that though their party-led government had eliminated militancy, it has emerged during the rule of current government.
Speaking at the programme, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi criticised the government for not responding to their chairperson’s call for a national unity to tackle militancy and terrorism.
“People are in doubt whether the government is sincere about curbing militancy as it has resorted to a blame game instead of uniting people,” he added.
