UGC urges UK to increase number of scholarships

University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh urged the British Government to increase the number of Scholarships and Fellowships for Bangladeshi students in UK universities. UGC is also keenly interested in establishing stronger ties with the UK Universities for internationalization of higher education.
UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan made the appeal when Deputy British High Commissioner in Dhaka Mr. Mark Clayton called on UGC Chairman at the latter’s office today (04.11.2015). Suraya Jahan, Deputy Director of Trade and Investment, British High Commission, Dhaka accompanied Deputy British High Commissioner.
They also discussed various aspects of higher education including collaborative research, networking, quality enhancement, exchange of students and faculties and also cross border higher education.
UGC Chairman, in his speech observed that huge expansion of education has taken place in the country over the years. Now quality needs to be infused among the students from primary to tertiary level to keep pace with in today’s world.
Time has come to equip the graduates with updated knowledge and skills.
UGC Members Professor Dr. Mohammad Mohabbat Khan, Professor Dr. Abul Hashem, Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, Professor Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Professor Dr. Dil Afroza Begum and UGC Secretary Dr. Md. Khaled, among others were present.
