Two get life- term for housewife murder

A Speedy Trial Tribunal in Chittagong on Tuesday sentenced two men with life-term imprisonment for killing the wife of an expatriate in the city in 2012.
The Judge of Chittagong Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal Kazi Mohitul Alam pronounced the verdict convicting Shahidul Islam alias Ilias and Abdul Hannan.
The court also fined them Taka 10,000 each while acquitted another accused of charges.
The prosecution story is, in brief, that the convicts along with three others were doing tiles fitting work at the house of an expatriate’s wife Khatiza Begum in Rasulbag Residential area under city’s Bakalia thana in 2012, court sources said.
As the victim was alone at her residence, the tiles workers chopped Khatiza to death with sharp weapons in order to loot cash money and valuables from the house on February 17, 2012.
Later, victim’s brother Mohammad Yunus filed a case against five persons in this connection.
Police submitted charge-sheet on November 23 the same year while the court framed charges on October 18, 2015.
The court today examined a total of 20 prosecution witnesses in the trial process and pronounced the verdict convicting Ilias and Hannan who have been absconding since the incident, court sources added.
