Three including a Clearing and Forwarding (C&F) Agent Office Managing Director (MD) sustained burn injuries in an explosion from gas leakage at Agrabad area under Double Mooring thana on Monday.
The injured were identified as Masud Hasan, 50, Md Akib Hossain, 26, and Md Sanwar Hossain, 23.
Among them, Masud was the MD of C&F agent ‘Samim Associates’ while two others were office staff.
Masud’s Condition is critical, confirmed Md Iftekhar, Officer of Fire Service and Civil Defense of Agrabad.
He said the fire originated from a leakage in gas line and broke out from an electronic short-circuit at the agent office at around 9:30am.
On information, one fire fighting of Agrabad station rushed to the spot and doused the fire after around a half hour efforts.
Nur Islam, Sub Inspector of Double-mooring police station, said “When Masud switched a fan on; the explosion took place leaving the trio injured.”
The semi-pucca office had a small kitchen and a gas connection without burner, SI added.
Seriously injured victims were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) and undergoing treatment there, said ASI Alauddin Talukdar of the hospital police outpost.
Team of Bomb Disposal unit of Chittagong Metropolitan Police rushed to the spot and inspected the office.
Rajesh Barua, Bomb Disposal unit Inspector, said gas was being leaked despite having the switch of the pipeline off.
As the room was closed throughout the night, gas concentrated in the room. The explosion took place following a short circuit after switching the fan on, Rajesh added.
