Bhuapur (Tangail) Correspondent :
The health complex of Bhuapur Upazila of Tangail does not have any anti-rabies vaccine. As a result, patients are not getting proper treatment if they are bitten by mad dogs. Due to this, the victims are compelled to buy anti-rabies vaccine from outside medicine shop spending extra money. Many people from neighboring Ghatail, Kalihati and Gopalpur upazilas are facing the problem.
Although the hospital has supply of anti-venom of snake, the patients of dog bite are being suffered immensely and deprived of getting proper treatment and medication due to the lack of anti-rabies vaccine.
Recently, at least 8 people including women, youth and old were bitten by mad dogs at the municipal areas of the upazila. Later, several of the injured went to the Upazila Health Complex for treatment, where only first aid was provided to them as thereare no anti-rabies vaccine there.
Locals bewailed that the nuisance of mad dogs has increased in the areas recently and several people have also been bitten by dogs. But unfortunately, there is no anti-rabies vaccine in the Upazila Health Complex. Therefore, the sufferers are compelled to buy vaccines from outside spending extra money which are very painful for the people of low income. Dr. Mohammad Abdus Sobhan, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer said in this regard, “As the hospital does not have anti-rabies vaccine, the patients are buying it from outside. Basically, the vaccines that are given in public hospitals for dog bites are a package for 4 people. If we apply one ampoule to a patient, the effectiveness of rest 3 deteriorated due to unboxing and temperature. However, we have already informed the issue of the concerned higher authorities and the anti-rabies vaccine supply for a single patient in the hospital is under process.
