Setting up special markets for women stressed

Speakers at a function here on Tuesday underscored the need for setting up special types of markets for the womenfolk to sell their produced items and buy the essential commodities smoothly.
“In most of the cases, the women are embarrassed and can not sell their produced items in the markets for want of suitable environment, as a result they are deprived of the fair prices against their produces”, they said.
They made the comments while addressing an opinion exchange meeting at Kalirbazaar area under Udakhali union of Fulchhari upazila in the district in the afternoon.
SKS Foundation, a regional non government organization, organized the function under Advancing Women to Activate on Rights and Empowerment (AWARE) project funded by Action Aid. Presided over by freedom fighter Abdus Samad, the function was also addressed, among others, by project coordinator Zulfikar Ali, project manager Mizanur Rahman, land donor Ashraful Islam Abu and businessmen Abul Kalam Azad and Abdus Sattar.
If the market can be established for the women, their accessibility to the market would increase to a great extent and they would be economically benefited as well, there is no doubt, they added.
After elaborate discussion, a decision was taken to set up a market for the women at Kalirbazaar area of the upazila within a very short time.
A large number of people including businessmen, social workers, public representatives, and local elite attended the function.
