Price of essentials rises ahead of Ramzan

The prices of the essential commodities have begun to rise as the month of the holy Ramzan will start a weak later amid both pleasure and the ongoing CVD-19 anxiety.
Already the prices of 15 kinds of essentials including rice, pulse, onion, oil and flour have risen. Of them, some have been skyrocketing. Especially the prices of gram and dates increased abnormally. As a result, the sufferings of the low income people know no bounds.
On Friday, coarse rice was being sold at Tk 50 per kg. Traders said that one month ago, a kilogram of coarse rice was available at Tk 34 only. According to the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), the price of coarse rice rose by 21.62 percent in the last one month. Not only coarse rice, the fine one has increased by 14.29 percent in the last one month. Similarly, the price of coarse flour increased by 15 percent in one month. Onion prices rose by 50 percent and garlic by 64 percent. The dates increased by 23 per cent and by 14 per cent for gram per kg.
Besides, dried chilies rose by 28 percent, turmeric by 26 percent, ginger by 130 percent, cloves by 16 percent. Besides, the price of soybean oil rose by 14.63 percent over last year. Palm oil (open) rose by 17 percent. Palm (super) oil prices rose 18 percent and sugar prices selling at Tk 75 per kg.
Traders said the prices of onion, ginger and garlic rose abnormally.
The price of ginger has raised abnormally. Local garlic is being sold for Tk160, against Tk 110 last weak.
Medium quality rice is being sold at Tk50 to Tk55 and fine rice is being sold for Tk 68.
At present, minikit and Nazirshil rice are being sold at Tk 62 and 68 and a week ago it was Tk55 and 60. That is, the price of fine rice increased by Tk eight a week and Tk 12. At present, medium quality rice is being sold at Tk 52-60, which was a week ago Tk 50-55.
However, the price of eggs and vegetables has dropped a bit. In the outbreak of coronavirus, rice, pulses, oil and onion prices have increased steadily, but vegetables are available at relatively low prices. Good quality tomato is being sold Tk 10. The price of all vegetables is reasonable. Bitter gourd is Tk 20, barbati Tk40, cucumber Tk20, papaya Tk30, bean Tk30, carrots Tk20, eggplant Tk20, , ladies finger Tk20-30. Medium-sized gourd is for Tk30-40per piece.
Since the beginning of the corona virus, soybean oil (loose) rose by Tk 20 per kg and price of palm oil has increased by up to Tk 10 a litre.
