Tragic trawler capsize in Turag 5 bodies recovered, 4 still missing

Three people out of five who were drowned after the trawler capsize in Turag River at Amin Bazar in the capital have been identified.
They were Sheuli Akter, 20, wife of Mohammd Kader Mia from Sunamganj, and her son Md Yeasin, 3, and another child identified as Arman, 4.
According to the locals, a Gabtoli-bound passenger vessel departed from Amin Bazar in the morning with at least 18 passengers. It sank with multiple passengers after the collision with the cargo vessel in the middle of Turag.
Fire Service Headquarters Duty Officer Dewan Mohammad confirmed the information to media on Saturday afternoon.
However, efforts are on to identify the rest two people who were recovered, he added.
Divers of fire service are still conducting rescue operation in search of other missing people.
Besides, police are trying to identify the vessel that hit the trawler, Dino Moni added. Savar police OC Kazi Mazharul Islam said that eight people had managed to swim ashore after the trawler sank
Earlier, eight people have been missing since a trawler capsized at Mahipura Point in the Bay of Bengal on Monday, September 6.
The fishing trawler, which was carrying 11 people, capsized in a storm in the early hours of Monday. Three of the crew were rescued alive.
The eight missing fishermen were identified as Nirab, Rubel, Shiraj, Yusuf, Shahid Jhiladar, Rafiqul Islam, Bazlur Rahman, and Delwar Chowkidar, from Velumia union of Bhola sadar.
Earlier on September 24, two fishermen drowned and one went missing as their fishing trawler capsized after a collision with an ocean-going ship off Chittagong city.
It is learned that trawler capsize has become very frequent issue in the water way during the rainy season. Most of the incidents occurred due to sinking of unfit and small boats after hit by big vessel.
