A case has been filed against 18 people, including sub-inspector of Pallabi Police Station, for allegedly demanding toll with coercion. Laboni, a builder in Mirpur of the capital, filed the case against the 18 people, including sub-inspectors Zahidul Islam and Jubayer Hossain of Pallabi Police Station, with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tarek Mainul Islam on Sunday.
The others accused are Saiful, Amanullah, Rubel, Siraj, Harun, Akhter, Mizan, Imran, Nur Alam, Suruj, Jaion Uddin, Moin, Sain, Sirajul, Yeasin and Abul Hossain.
According to the prosecution, a group of 10-12 people, including Saiful and Amanullah,
demanded Tk 10 lakh from Laboni’s maternal uncle Momin Box while he was monitoring the work of ‘Habily Property’ beside Alinagar Housing in Mirpur on May 12.
On June 14, the extortionists obstructed the property work and chopped plaintiff’s brother Rajib and her uncle Momin, leaving them injured.
Later, SI Zahid of Pallabi Police Station arrested Labuni’s husband Minal and another man Ali for their involvement in the attack on Rajib and Momin. SI Zahid also demanded Tk 1 lakh from the two arrestees and threatened them to file a killing case against them unless the demand is met.
