Customs intelligence officials seized 36 gold bars weighing 4.135 kg at Shahjalal International Airport and detained a man in this connection on Monday. The arrested was identified as Anis Miah, 23. Director general of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate Mainul Khan said Anis boarded on Dhaka-bound flight ‘BG 048’ from Dubai at Shah Amanat International Airport of Chittagong in the morning. The flight arrived at Shahjalal International Airport around 11:00am. Tipped off, a team of Customs intelligence officials challenged Anis after landing at the airport when he was crossing the domestic terminal. Later, they searched his body and recovered the 36 gold bars from inside his shoes and under garments. The market value of the gold was around Tk 2.2 crore. – UNB, Dhaka.
