Manufacturers have demanded of the government an import duty cut on ‘Urea Resin’, a raw material which is used to manufacture electrical equipment.
They want the import duty to be fixed at 10 percent in the upcoming budget.
Bangladesh Electrical Merchandise Manufacturers Association raised the demand at a news conference at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on Tuesday.
The association’s president Enayet Hossain Chowdhury said eight companies produce Urea Resin in Bangladesh and these are used in manufacturing melamine products.
Due to stiff hike in import duty, it became difficult for electrical equipment manufacturers to use this raw material produced by the eight companies, he said.
