Nizami’s appeal hearing adjourned

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) yesterday adjourned the hearing of the appeal case of Jamaat chief Matiur Rahman Nizami till today.
The four-member Appellate Division panel
headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha set the date after hearing the defence arguments for second consecutive day.
The Apex court on November 25, set November 30 to start placing arguments by the defence and will continue till December 2, whereas the prosecution will place their part of arguments on December 7. The next day, the defence will present their rebuttal on the prosecution hearing.
Yesterday Nizami’s counsel SM Shahjahan continued placing arguments on eight charges that were proven against his client. On October 29, 2014, the ICT-1 sentenced the Jamaat chief to death as the 72-year-old convict was found guilty in eight of the total 16 charges.
