Old man electrocuted in Mehendiganj

An old man identified as Mojibor Dewan, 65, died after electrocuted when came in touch of live electricity supply wire passed nearby coconut tree on Monday noon at Mistribari, in Saldi village under Ulania union of Mehendiganj upazila. The victim was son of Runu Dewan from Ulania and worked as a day labour for nourishing and dressing coconut and betel-nut trees. Abidur Rahman, officer in charge of Mehendiganj police station, said Mojibor climbed on a coconut tree of Liakat Master for cutting branches and dressing that for better production on Monday noon. Suddenly a branch of the tree became electrified by the live electricity supply wire passing side of that tree and Mojibor also died after electrocuted at noon . Then police with the help of fire servicemen recovered the dead body hanging on top of the tree by disrupting electricity supply, police sources said. Police lodged a case of unnatural death in this connection and if the family members want, then the dead body would be send to morgue for autopsy, the OC added
Helpline 16123 provides agri info to farmers
RAJSHAHI: Farmers can avail any agriculture-related information after making a call at helpline number 16123 as currently it has been delivering information about agriculture, livestock and fisheries through mobile operators free of cost. The information was revealed in a daylong training workshop on modern agriculture technology organszed by Rajshahi Regional Office of Agriculture Information Services (AIS) for the print and electronic media journalists at local centre conference hall of Bangladesh Betar here on Thursday. Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Shamsul Haque and its Regional Deputy Director Joynal Abedeen addressed the training sessions as resource persons with Regional AIS Officer Abdullah Hil Kafi in the chair. Regional Director of Bangladesh Betar Hassan Akhter and its Deputy Director Sheuly Rani Basu and DAE District Training Officer Monzurul Haque also spoke on the occasion disseminating their expertise on the issue. Speakers discussed fruit production and its export issues, elaborating media role towards circulating and publishing agriculture related information. They said the media role is very important towards disseminating the modern agriculture information to the grassroots farmers, reports BSS.
Agriculture Census goes on in Dupchanchia

The Agriculture Census has been going on in full swing in Dupchanchia Upazila of the district since June 09 with the theme ‘Krishi Shumari Shafal Kori, Sammriddha Bangladesh Gori’. Office sources said all the enumerators assigned by the Upazila Statistics Office (USO) of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) are going to the houses of the peoples and collecting information in prescribed form about food grains, fisheries and livestock. The enumerators are also collecting data on size of the agriculture households, land use, size of the cultivated land, number of cattle and poultry, agricultural machineries, food security, fisheries and forests from the district, sources said. Upazila Statistics Office said all the enumerators were imparted need base trainings for doing the work of the census that would continue here like other parts of the country till June 20.
