Green manures demonstration plots set up in Jamalpur
JAMALPUR: Agriculture Department has set up 224 demonstration plots on green manures to add natural nutrition in soil in the district this year. According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), ‘Dhoincha’ (leguminous plant) were sown in 224 plots in the district.The office said each of the plots is 100 decimals of land. The demonstration plots are- 51 in Jamalpur sadar, 26 in Sarishabari, 36 in Melandaha, 39 in Islampur, 26 in Dewanganj, 23 in Madarganj and 23 in Bakshiganj upazila. The office said each of the farmers got 20-kg of Dhoincha seed free of cost for a plot. After two months of sowing seeds farmers will level the plants in soil, rep[orts BSS.
District branding affairs workshop held
GAIBANDA: A workshop entitled ‘District Branding Affairs’ was held at the conference room of District Collectorate Building here on Thursday afternoon. District administration arranged the workshop in cooperation with Cabinet Division and Access to Information (a2i) programme of Prime Minister (PM) Office. Deputy Commissioner (DC) Goutam Chandra Pal addressed the workshop as the chief guest while additional deputy commissioner (General) Muhammad Mizanur Rahman presided over the ceremony and assistant commissioner M. Musabbirul Islam was the moderator. The function was also addressed, among others, by chief executive officer of Zila Parishad AKS Mahbubur Rahman, deputy director of local government section M. Shafiqul Islam, DD of department of agriculture extension AKM Ruhul Amin, Sadar UNO Alia Ferdous Zahan, district information officer Sabiha Akter Lucky and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman, reports BSS.
Cosmetic shops fined Taka 70,000 in Rajshahi

The regional office of Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (BSTI) fined two cosmetics shops Taka 70,000 for manufacturing and marketing of substandard cosmetics goods. BSTI in association with Executive Magistrate Shafiqur Alam conducted a mobile court at Baneswar Bazar area under Puthiya Upazila yesterday afternoon. The court found Jhilmil Store and Modern Cosmetics and Herbal guilty of manufacturing, possessing and selling of substandard cosmetic items violating BSTI rules and regulations.The court also realised Taka 70,000 from the shop owners. Altab Hossain, Director of BSTI, said the regional office has expedited its drives against the manufacturer of substandard and adulterated foods and other consumer items. Such drives will continue in the days to come for the greater interest of the people, he added.
Policeman killed in Dinajpur road accident
DINAJPUR: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police was killed as a truck hit him at Sonamukhi crossing on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj highway under Ghoraghat upazila of the district on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Fajir Ahamed, 35, ASI of Palashbari Thana in Gaibandha district and son of Joynal Abedin, a resident of Jamalpur-Charakuri village in Dinajpur Sadar upazila. Officer-in-charge of Ghoraghat Thana Israil Hossain said after the incident critically injured Fajir was rushed to KH Memorial hospital in Nawabganj upazila.Later, he was shifted to Phulbari upazila health complex where he succumbed to his injuries this noon, the officer said, reports BSS.
Worker died from electrocution in Jessore

A worker died from electrocution at Barandi Kadamtala in the district town on Thursday.Quoting victim’s father, police said Al Amin, 19, a wielding worker and son of Mozahar Kha of Fatehpur area in Sadar upazila, came in contact with live electric wire while working at a shop, leaving him critically injured. Later, he was taken to Jessore General Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
