Rajshahi Kings registered a narrow 12-run win over Rangpur Riders in their match of the AKS Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 Cricket at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Friday.
Sent into bat first, Rajshahi Kings piled up a healthy total of 162 for the loss of five wickets in the stipulated 20 overs and then restricted Rangpur Riders to 150 for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs.
Rajshahi Kings had a sorrow start as opener Mominul Haque (4) was trapped leg before wicket by Sohag Gazi when Rajshahi’s score was 4.
Then Junaid Siddique and Sabbir Rahman repaired the early damage contributing together 47 runs for the second wicket stand before Sabbir Rahman was stumped out by wicketkeeper Mohammad Shahzad off Arafat Sunny when Rajshahi’s total was 51 for the loss of two wickets.
Later, Umar Akmal and Darren Sammy built the most worthy partnership for Rajshahi Kings. They put on together 70 runs for the unbroken sixth wicket stand.
Darren Sammy remained unbeaten with 44. He hit four sixes and three fours in his 18-ball superb knock.
Umar Akmal remained unbeaten with 33. His 30-ball polished innings was studded with two fours and a sixer.
Sabbir Rahman hit a fine 31 from 24 balls featuring four fours and a sixer.
Besides, Junaid Siddique and Samit Patel added 23 and 17 runs respectively to the Rajshahi total.
Liam Dawson of Rangpur Riders bagged a pair of wickets at the cost of 15 runs, while Muktar Ali, Arafat Sunny, Sohag Gazi took one wicket each for five, 17 and 32 runs respectively.
Rangpur Riders made a meek start as openers Mohammad Shahzad and Nasir Jamshed put on together 28 runs in the opening stand before Mohammad Shahzad (18) was bowled out by Nazmul Islam when Rangpur’s total was 28.
Then Mohammad Mithun and Nasir Jamshed added together 48 runs for the second wicket partnership before Jamshed was run out by Momihul Haque when Rangpur’s score was 68 for the loss of two wickets.
Mohammad Mithun remained unbeaten with 64. His 36-ball splendid innings was studded with four sixes and three fours.
Later, Mohammad Mithun and Naeem Islam contributed together 31 runs for the unbroken sixth wicket stand before Rangpur’s innings came to an end.
Nasir Jamshed hit 27 from 28 balls including three fours and a sixer.
Nazmul Islam of Rajshahi Kings bagged a couple of wickets instead of 19 runs, while Mohammad Sami and Samit Patel got one wicket each conceding 26 and 28 runs respectively.
Darren Sammy of Rajshahi Kings was adjudged the Man of the Match.
