83,944 families get rice at fair price in Khulna

The government has sold 75,52,470 tonnes of rice with per kilogram at Tk 10 among 83,944 ultra poor families in Khulna during fiscal 2018-19 as part of its food-friendly programme.
The fair price rice selling programme was started from fiscal 2017-18 and it continued in nine upazilas of Khulna in fiscal 2018-2019 to make food available for the ultra poor people.
According to District Food Office, a total of 127 dealers were appointed at 68 unions of nine upazilas in Khulna asking them to sell the rice per kg at Tk 10.
Talking to BSS, District Controller of Food Tanveer Ahmed said each family received 30 kg rice per month.

Bangla month ‘Kartik’ and day-labourers became jobless till ‘Agrahayan’ in the villages, he said.
The rice selling programme was carried out in five months of a year -September to November and March to April.
The government has launched the programme to ensure the access of the ultra poor families to food during any lean period so that they can address food crisis.
“We’ve taken punitive action against those who involved in irregularities in fair price rice selling programme,” he added.
A dealer was appointed to sell rice among every 500 families under the programme, he said, adding the families with widows or the persons with disability were given priority.
