BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and Jatiya Party Chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad will address respective rallies today, the first day of the English New Year 2017 in the capital in order to restore own images and to send new messages to the nation, sources said.
The BNP Chief will attend a student rally in the auditorium of the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh in the afternoon organised by the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal to mark its 38th founding anniversary.
“Hectic preparation goes on to make the Sunday’s rally successful.
The students’ rally eventually will become a mass rally,” BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told The New Nation yesterday.
On the other hand, JP Chairman will be the chief guest of the rally to be hold in the Suhrawardy Udyan in the morning the same day, marking the founding anniversary of JP.
Senior leaders of the party have been passing very busy time for the last few days for this.
“We are receiving response from the people across the country. Our party Chief will give important messages to the nation,” said ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader, the Secretary General of the party.
He said it while addressing a campaign meeting for Sunday’s rally at Karwan Bazar in the city yesterday.
BNP sources said, the party have lost ties with the people as Begum Khaleda Zia abstained from addressing mass rally for a long time. She goes to indoor programmes only and read written statements. The party did not announce any big programme after suspending the three-month long blockade in 2015 for fresh national polls.
The party is now trying to make its organisation stronger by restructuring it from grass root levels. Apart from these, the party wants to garner public support by protesting price hike move of the government. In the past, most of the protest programmes were organised at indoor levels only.
In this circumstances, the party is trying to organise rallies in an open place like the Suhrawardy Udyan. They wanted to organise a mass rally there to mark the 7 November National Revolution and Solidarity Day. But the Administration did not give them permission to hold the programme.
After that the BNP has given letter to the authorities to give them permission for a rally in the Suhrawardy Udyan on January 7 to mark ‘democracy killing day’ of January 5.
JP Chief and former President Hussain Muhammad Ershad is also trying to restore images by giving important speech. Today’s rally is also part of this strategy, the party leaders said.
