International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) has been awarded second prize in the World Environmental Day-2014 Fair organized by the Department of Environment, Ministry of Environment and Forests recently. Out of total 91 stalls of different institutions joined in the week long fair, Dhaka University, Geography Department has been awarded the first prize in the competition.
Abdullah Al Islam Jakob, Deputy Minister for Environment and Forests handed over the prize to Prof Dr Mohammed Ataur Rahman, Director, Centre for Global Environmental Culture (CGEC) and Program on Education for Sustainability, IUBAT at the closing ceremony at the Conference Hall, Forest House Agargaon, Dhaka. The week-long fair arranged on the occasion of World Environment Day began on June 5.
Earlier, Anwar Hossain Monju MP, Minister for Environment and Forests speaking as chief guest of the closing session called upon the people of all strata of the society to help maintain healthy environment in their own areas for combating the worst effects of climate change.
Pauline Tamesis, Country Director, UNDP Bangladesh, speaking as guest of honour appreciated the performance of different institutions forl focusing the methodology of better maintenance of environment in the best interest of mother earth. Presided over by Md. Raisul Alam Mondol, Director General, Department of Environment, Shafiqur Rahman Patwari,Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forests also spoke on the occasion.
Prof Dr M Alimullah Miyan, Founder and Vice Chancellor of IUBAT thanks to the Ministry of Environment and Forest and the Department of Environment for recognition of university’s role in environmental arena and awarding by judging the performance in the relevant areas. He also thanked the faculties and students for representing the university in this prestigious venture and earning 00 glory for their Alma Mater.
IUBAT stall presented extraordinary theme “Science behind Tradition” and showed thoughtful video and posters reflecting climate change, model of home gardening and grey water recycling project.
