IO could not be cross-examined in Abrar murder case

The Investigation Officer (IO) of the case filed over the murder of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad, could not be cross-examined yesterday (Sunday) due to the illness of the Judge Abu Zafar Md Kamruzzaman of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 of Dhaka.
Md Wahiduzzaman, Inspector of the Detective Branch (DB) of police and Investigation Officer of the case, completed testifying in the tribunal on January 31.
Judge Abu Zafar Md Kamruzzaman of Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 of Dhaka recorded the depositions of Wahiduzzaman, the last prosecution witness in the case.
Later, on February 2, the defence lawyers cross-examined the Investigation Officer for the third day. Then Sunday was fixed for the fourth day to cross-examine him and that was not possible due to the illness of the judge of the tribunal.
On Sunday, the court fixed February 11 and 12 to cross-examine the IO of the case.
On Sunday, twenty-two accused who are now in the jail, were produced in the tribunal while the remaining two accused are on the run. The tribunal recorded statements of 45 prosecution witnesses including complainant of the case.
The tribunal framed charges against 25 accused on September 15 last year.
Abrar, a second-year student of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department of BUET, died after he was brutally beaten allegedly by some Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men at the Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the university in the early hours of October 7, 2019.
Later, his father filed the case with Chawkbazar Police Station of the city against 19 BCL leaders of BUET unit.
