Pry school textbooks seized while being sold in Chandpur

Matlab South Upazila Nirbahi Officer caught red handed and seized 2284 copies of text books of Government Primary school on Tuesday afternoon while they (books) were secretly and illegally being sold to a hawker by one Md Saleh Ahmed- office assistant of the Matlab Upazila Resource Centre.
Upazila Resource Centre’s Chief Instructor Rasheda Atik Rozy could not be reached for her comment on this matter, despite repeated calls over her cell.
When asked, Peon-cum-night guard Mamunur Rashid said ‘Saleh bhai sold these books to a hawker.’
The Office assistant Saleh Ahmed was allegedly selling these text books illegally without the knowledge and norms of the higher authorities or Government order. . Seeing the books being sold to a hawker secretly , , a conscious man of the locality informed the UNO and the local OC about it.
 The UNO Md Shahidul Islam took prompt action in this regard. He seized all the 2284 text books of class one up to class V. At once the office assistant Saleh Ahmed and the van driver Ismail were detained. Matlab South Thana Sub Inspector Md Alam Chowdhury made a list of the seized books of different classes from class one to class V of the current year. Upazila Education Officer A K M Shahidul Huque Mollah told this correspondent, ‘these books are usually and officially given to the Upazila Resource Centre every year for imparting training to the Primary school teachers of the Upazila’..
Contacted, the UNO told this correspondent that ‘an enquiry into this matter would be made soon and then departmental action would be taken against the responsible persons about this matter’. He again said, ‘The higher authorities were also informed about this matter’. He added, ‘the seized text books were preserved under my own custody’. When contacted, Matlab South Thana Officer -in-Charge AK MS Iqbal Hossain, ‘the detained Office Assistant of Matlab Upazila Resource Centre- Saleh Ahmed and the van driver Ismail were released later, since ‘the UNO would investigate the matter’.
