Include Bangabandhu’s 7 March speech in syllabus: HC

The High Court on Wednesday ordered the government to include the historic speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered on 7th March in 1971 in the text books of secondary and higher secondary levels and also in the syllabus of the university level.
An expert committee will work in this regard the High Court also ruled.
The High Court Bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice Shahed Nuruddin delivered
 the verdict after holding hearing on a writ petition filed in this regard.
Advocate Bashir Ahmed, former Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), filed the petition in 2017 after the UNESCO recognised the historic March 7 speech of Bangabandhu as a world documentary heritage.
Following the writ petition the High Court on February 25 in 2020 ordered the government to issue a gazette within one month declaring the 7th March as a ‘historic national day’.
The authorities were also directed to erect murals of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in all districts and upazilas within the Mujib Year, the birth centenary of the Bangabandhu and were asked to submit a compliance report in the court within one month.
Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan headed HC bench also issued a ruling upon the concerned bodies of the government to explain in four weeks as to why the respondents should not be directed to include historic 7th March speech in the textbooks of primary, secondary and higher secondary levels.
After holding final hearing on the ruling, the High Court bench delivered the verdict on Wednesday.
In the judgment the High Court also asked the government to immediately reconstruct the stage and a sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivering speech with waving finger at Suhrawardy Udyan where the historical speech was delivered said advocate Bashir Ahmed.
