Staff Reporter :
The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday upheld a High Court (HC) order of evicting the illegal structure of Din Furniture from the Dhaleswari River.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order rejecting the leave to appeal filed by Din Furniture.
Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) filed the writ petition on November 23, alleging that Din Furniture Company illegally constructed their factory on the Dhaleswari River near the pillar Nos 11 and 12 encroaching 90×150 square feet area at Munshiganj point.
The HC on January 3 issued a rule to form a survey team to submit report.
A three-member administrative committee submitted the report on May 8, confirming the illegal existence of the structure.
The HC on May 25 directed the factory owner to remove the structure within 30 days.
A chamber judge of the HC sent the petition for hearing by a full bench after the factory owner filed a stay petition.
