The High Court on Tuesday issued a rule asking the government to explain as to why the bail to Haimchar Upazila Chairman Nur Hossain Patwari in a case filed for ‘walking over a human bridge made by schoolboys’ should not be cancelled.
A High Court Bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Jahangir Hossain issued the rule after hearing on a petition. The HC also questioned under which authority the Judge of a subordinate court granted him bail.
Chandpur Deputy Commissioner, the Judge of Chandpur District Child Court, Upazila Parishad Chairman and others concerned have been made respondents to the rule which is returnable in two weeks.

Upazila filed a petition challenging the bail to Haimchar Upazila Chairman. Advocate Shahriar Kabir and Advocate Sarwar Hossain stood for the petitioner and Deputy Attorney General Jahangir Alam represented the State.
Earlier on January 30, some students of Nilkomol Osmania High School made a symbolic ‘Padma Bridge’ joining their hands on the occasion of the annual sports day of the school and Haimchar Upazila Chairman Nur Hossain Patwari, who attended the programme as the chief guest, walked over the students’ bodies.
The video footage and image of the incident went on facebook which triggered huge criticism across the country.
Abdul Kadir Gazi alias Ali Ahmed, a guardian, filed the case against five people, including Haimchar Upazila Chairman Nur Hossain Patwari on February 2.
