Govt urged to fix 65 as retirement age for FFs

Speakers at a discussion on Saturday urged the government to fix 65 as retirement age for freedom fighters in the government service.
 “The freedom fighters are the assets of the country. Our duty is to respect them. It is their right to continue government job till 65. We believe that the government will take initiative in this regard,” the speakers opined.
They said this at a discussion titled “Fixing 65 as Retirement Age of Freedom Fighters in the Government Service” held in the VIP Lounge of the National Press Club organised by National F. F Foundation.
Professor of History Department of Dhaka University Syed Anwar Hossain spoke at the function as the chief guest while National F F Foundation Chairman SM Jahangir Alam presided over it.

President Golam Quddus, Professor A Arafat, Government and Non-government Institutions Coordination Parishad Convener Hedayetul Bari and freedom fighter M A Halim addressed there.
Syed Anwar Hossain said, the freedom fighters sacrificed their lives for the country. Fortunately, some of the freedom fighters are still alive and they have been serving the country. So, We should respect them, he said.
He said that the retirement age of freedom fighters in government service should be raised from 60 to 65 considering their heroic contribution to national independence.
Nasir Uddin Yousuf Bachchu said, the freedom fighters expect respect from the government.
National Press Club President Shafiqur Rahman said, “In our country, judges and scientists retire at 67 and university teachers at 65, then why the freedom fighters should not be allowed to work until the age of 65.”
Monoranjan Ghosal said that the Awami League led government came to power in 2009 and increased the retirement age limit of freedom fighters working as government employees by two years. Next time retirement age limit of all general government employees was increased by two years, and as a result equality was maintained. The retirement age of freedom fighter-employees was not increased again, he said. (Picture on P-3)
