Jasim Pollimela ends in Faridpur
FARIDPUR: Three week long Jasim Pollimela (village fair) coinciding the 112th birth anniversary of the immortal folk poet Jasimuddin concluded last evening here at the Mela premises of poet’s ancestral home located at Gobindapur in the suburb of the town. The fair was organized jointly by Faridpur Jasim Foundation and District Administration. Overseas Employment and Expatriate Welfare Minister Engineer Khondoker Mosharraf Hossain was the chief guest at the concluding function chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Faridpur Sardar Sharafat Ali. Addressing the function as the chief guest Mosharraf stressed the need for preserving our traditional cultural heritage for our national progress and identity. He said that this village fair which has become the annual festival coinciding the birth anniversary of poet Jasimuddin is a praiseworthy venture of the organizers to preserve our heritage as well as a source of enjoyment for the rural as well as urban people.
Pro-BNP teachers, employees condemn power cut off at Khaleda’s office

The teachers, employees and staffs of Jahangirnagar University (JU) under the banner of JU Nationalist Teacher Employees and Staff Forum strongly condemned the power supply, cable and internet connection cut off of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office. Terming the incident as the “democracy is footed over by ruling fascist government”, by setting such an example of cutting power, cable, internet and phone connections of former Prime Minister’s residence, speakers here raised their voice warning the government. Some BNP backed teachers, employees and staffs of the university on Sunday formed a human chain at the premise of Shaheed Minar protesting the unforeseen power cut off.
Addressing the rally, Member Secretary of the Forum Prof Sharif Uddin said, the SSC exam is scheduled to be held amid uncertainty and government would be liable for all unwanted situation. The power cut off by authorities concern has set a “worse act of cruelty”, None of evil plans would bear any fruit. People have taken to the streets. No one will go back home until democracy is restored. You (Sheikh Hasina) can’t stop the democratic movement by using repressive measures,” he said.
Miscreants torch rice laden truck, car in Jessore

Miscreants torched a rice laden truck and a private car on Jessore- Benapole Road at Natunhat area under Jessore sadar upazila on Saturday night. Driver of the truck Nazim Uddin, 25 of Momrejpur under Kaligonj upazila in Jhenidah received burn wounds while the passengers of the private car managed to escape from burn wounds. The driver told that he received burn wounds as miscreants set his truck and a private car on fire at around 10 pm on Saturday. The driver was undergoing treatment at Jessore Medical College Hospital. Enamul Haque, officer in-charge, Kotwali police station confirmed the information.
One killed, 5 injured of a family in Barisal road mishap

One female passenger killed, 5 others of same family injured after their carrier three-wheeler hit by a truck at Tarakupi area on Barisal-Dhaka Highway on Saturday afternoon. The victim was identified as Rahima Begum, 44, wife of Aktar Hossain from Par-Gendaria of south Keraniganj under Dhaka district. The injured five victims were Anowara Begum, 70, mother, Shohana Akter Swarna, 11, Jesmin Begum, 24, daughters, Sharif Sardar, 35, son in law, Shanto Sardar, 13, son, of the dead victim Rahima Begum. Among the 5 injured, first two sent to Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital and rest three admitted at Gournadi upazila health complex. Sub Inspector Saiful Islam of Gournadi highway police station , disclosing this fact said the family came to Baghmara village to visit the house of Sharif Sardar and then going to Torki on a battery operated three-wheeler van at 4:00 PM Saturday. Suddenly a speedy truck from opposite direction hitting the van fled away. Local people rushed to the spot started rescue operation and informed police. Police sent body of the dead victim to SBMCH morgue for autopsy and injured five to the hospitals, the police official told.
Huge jatka seized for violating restriction
Law enforcers operating drives seized 1400 Kg (35 mounds) fishes worth Tk. 2.8 lakhs in Barisal on Saturday for violating eight months restriction against netting Jatka (Hilsa-fry). Maksudul Ahsan, spokesman of the zonal commanding office of Coast Guard, Barisal Zone, giving this fact said Coast Guard operating two separate drives in markets at Saheber Hut under Sadar upazila and Kaliganj launch ghat under Mehendiganj upazila of Barisal from early to late morning of Saturday seized those amount of Jatka. The seized Jatka later distributed to different orphanages and madrasas through district fishery office, the CG official added Bimal Chandra Das, officer (Hilsa) of fishery directorate Barisal office, said an eight months country-wide ban from November 1 to June 30 against catching, transportation and marketing ‘Jatka'(hilsa fry less than 10 inch or 26 centimeters in length ) to increase hilsa-resources has been started.
