DU picnic bus collides head- on with truck: 50 injured

DU Correspondent :At least 50 people, including several Dhaka University students, on Friday were injured when a picnic bus carrying them collided head-on with a truck at Ashulia near capital Dhaka, police said.The injured students were sent to Dhaka Orthopedic Hospital (DOH), Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) and Enam Medical College and Hospital. Four Dhaka University students have been identified. They are Lalon Tripura, Drubo Tripura, James Tripura and Trimukhi Tripura. The first two were admitted into DOH and the other two into DMCH. Twenty eight injured were treated at Enam Medical College Hospital for treatment. The accident occurred at the Dhaka-Aricha highway’s Beltola area on Friday morning, Ashulia police station Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Badrul Alam said.Eyewitnesses said a Mankganj-bound double-decker bus collided head-on with the goods-laden truck around 11 am. Locals went to the spot and rescued the injured immediately. Tapan Kumar Tripura, a student of Green University, who was in the bus said that they were going to Nahar Garden Picnic Spot under Manikganj district in the morning. “When we reached near Savar Gonosasthoya Hospital, a goods laden truck collided head-on with our bus, leaving many injured,” Tapan said. Dhaka University’s Proctor Amzad Ali said members of three Tripura students’ association, accompanied by several DU students, were out for a picnic. He identified the organisations as Bangladesh-Tripura Kalyan Trust, Tripura Students Forum, and Barak Education Support Trust.
