Covid-19: Bangladesh logs 2 more deaths, 2,101 infections

With a surge in infections, Bangladesh reported 2,101 new cases from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours till 8am Monday.
Also, two people died of the virus during the same period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) data.
The new figures took the country’s total death toll to 29,142 while caseload to 19,67,274, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

On Sunday, the country recorded 1,680 cases with two deaths from Covid-19.
Of the five deaths reported from June 20 to June 26, some 77.8% received vaccine against Covid-19 while 22.2% did not.
Several of them had one or two comorbidities. Comorbidity means the simultaneous presence of two or more diseases or medical conditions in a patient.
The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.48%. The recovery rate declined to 96.93% from Sunday’s 97.02% as 179 patients recovered during this period.
In May, the country reported only four Covid-linked deaths and 816 new cases, while 7,356 patients recovered from the disease, according to the DGHS.
Among the four deaths during the period, one was vaccinated with a single dose of Covid vaccine while three were vaccinated with two doses.
The country reported its first zero Covid death in a single day on November 20 last year, along with 178 cases, since the pandemic broke out in Bangladesh in March 2020.
On January 28, Bangladesh logged its previous highest positivity rate of 33.37%.
The country registered its highest daily caseload of 16,230 on July 28 last year and daily fatalities of 264 on August 10 in the same year.
Children aged between five and 11 will be administered with Pfizer vaccine.
Birth certificate is required to register for Covid vaccine through Surokkha App.
Additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Meerjady Sabrina Flora said this at a discussion held in the capital on Monday.
She asked those parents who do not collect their children’s birth certificates to collect those as soon as possible.
Besides, the additional director general called all people to follow the health rules in the sacrificial animal markets.
