Charge hearing against 148 BNP men deferred

A Dhaka court yesterday deferred the charge hearing in a case filed against BNP leaders and activists under the Speedy Trial Act to August 5.
Magistrate Tareque Moinul Islam Bhuiyan of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka fixed the new date for hearing on charge framing against 148 leaders and activists of BNP including Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and former Opposition Chief Whip
in the case filed with Paltan Police Station of the capital for creating panic and chaos among the public.
Earlier, Sunday was scheduled for hearing on charge hearing framing in the case. The other accused of the case include former Chief Whip Joinal Abdein Farroque, BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Amamullah Aman, Md Shahjahan, BNP Chairperson’s advisor Dr Zahid Hossain and Advocate Abed Raza.
Earlier, June 6 was fixed for hearing on charge framing, when the defence had sought time. Of 148 accused leaders 128 are on leave.
On March 11 of last year, police conducted a drive on the central office of BNP at Nayapaltan and arrested 154 leaders and activists of the party in connection with the alleged incident of cocktail explosion and violence.
On March 24, Investigation Officer (IO) of the case and also Paltan Police Station SI Mahbubul Hasan relieved six of the accused and submitted the charge sheet against 148 leaders and activists to Dhaka CMM Court.
