Publicity and Publication Secretary of the ruling Awami League (AL) Dr. Hasan Mahmud said here on Monday senior BNP leaders should remove Khaleda Zia from the party to protect it.
“Khaleda Zia doesn’t want to free the senior leaders of BNP from the jails as she has planned to ensure leadership of her elder son Tarique Rahman’s followers in the party,” he said while addressing a discussion as the chief guest.
Narayanganj district unit of Awami Muktijoddha Projonmo League organized the discussion with its president Md Mahmudul Hasan presiding at Jatiya Press Club (JPC).
Among others, Dhaka City AL Publicity and Publication Secretary Abdul Haque Sabuj, assistant secretary of AL central sub-committee Advocate Baloram Poddar, Advocate Asaduzzaman Durjoy, Md Kamrul Hasan, and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote general secretary Arun Sarker Rana, spoke on the occasion.
Referring to recent remarks of Khaleda Zia, Hasan, also a former minister said, “If the senior leaders of BNP have minimum guts they should remove Khaleda Zia for the sake of the party.”
In a recent meeting of BNP standing committee, Khaleda Zia said her party colleagues, who believed that nothing could be possible with the existing BNP, they could join AL.
Describing Khaleda and her son Tarique as the only standing committee members where the rest of others as temporary ones of the BNP , he also said, “Many BNP leaders even does not want to see anymore Khaleda Zia as their party chief.” The AL leader called upon the government to form a special tribunal to hold trial of Khaleda Zia for killing innocent people and damaging government property in the name of so called hartal and blockade centering the January 5 national election.
Hasan, also president of a parliamentary standing committee on Forest and Environment Ministry said, “It will possible to protect the society with holding trial of Khaleda Zia as the mastermind of anarchy, militancy and terrorism carried out at her directive .”
