UNB, Dhaka :
Stating that people are upset over the country’s rule of law, BNP on Monday urged the government to immediately take effective steps to stop extrajudicial killings.
In a statement, BNP spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon said, “We call upon the government to take visible measurers to put an end to extrajudicial killings and ensure the security of people’s lives and property.”
He alleged that the law enforcers cooked up a story of gunfight after shooting in a leg of Bogra Jubo Dal president Masudur Rahman Masud. “BNP is worried over the incident.
We strongly condemn such inhuman role of the law enforcement agencies.”
Ripon, also the party’s international affairs secretary, said the law enforcers in cool brain shot Mausd in the name of ‘gunfight’ as part of its trick to spread panic among political activists.
Despite being criticised at home and abroad over the violation of human rights by law enforcers, they are not shunning such activities, he lamented demanding a judicial investigation into the incident.
Referring to the killing of Joypurhat Jubo Dal assistant general secretary Afjal Hossin by unidentified killers, Ripon said the democratic progress is being hindered due to political leaders’ extrajudicial killing or by unknown assailants. “We think people’s frustration over the rule of law is deepening due to the recurrence of such incidents.”
