Five road transport workers were arrested in Barisal on Wednesday for violating two female minibus passengers.
Rezaul Islam, Officer- In- Charge of Barisal Airport Police Station, said Mehedi Hasan, a transport worker of the same company and husband of a victim, lodged a case in this connection on early Wednesday.
After that police operating night long drives arrested five out of six accused road transport workers of Seba Paribahon from different parts of the city.
The arrestees were Rony Mridha, Tarek Hossain, Debashish Saha, Sujan Kumar Mitra, Nasir Chaprashi.
Another accused road transport worker Md. Mizan remained absconding and we trying to nab him, the police official said.
In the case the complainant alleged that he with his friend Ariful Islam Masud, wife (Lima Aktar) and sister in law (Ishita Aktar), visiting Kuakata arrived in Barisal Nathullabad bus terminal at 2:15 AM January 24.
Then they boarded on a minibus of Seba Paribahon from Nathullabad central bus terminal for going to their paternal home at Chakhar under Banaripara upazila of Barisal.
After leaving the bus terminal 6 road transport workers including driver, supervisor, and helper torturing two male passengers under arms started raping two female victims on board of the running bus.
The rapist gang collecting 15 thousand taka demanded more 60 thousand taka and threatened to spread the video recording of rape scenes through internet in default.
The victim male and female passengers were released at Rampotty stoppage of the route under Barisal Airport Police Station at about 5:30 AM January 24.
Reaching home when the victims tried to lodge case, Mostafa Kamal, secretary of road transport workers union, assuring compromise tried lingering the matter.
Later, Mehedi and Arif, driver and supervisor of same road transport company Seba Paribahon, were sacked from service and expelled from union instead of getting justice. Then on Tuesday night, March 15, 2016, a case of gang rape was lodged on behalf of the victims against six accused, police sources said.
Police recording the case immediately starting drive arrested 5 out of six accused and trying to nab other one, said Azad Rahman, assistant commissioner of Barisal Metropolitan Police.
