3 cops sued with CMM court over extortion

UNB, Dhaka :A case has been filed against three policemen of Bangshal Police Station in the capital with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court here for extorting money from a businessman.The three accused are Sub-inspector Mohammad Murshid of the police station and two constables, Moazzem Hossain and Pradip Kumar. Mokbul Hossain, owner of Quality Accessories Ltd, a firm doing business on garment accessories, filed the case with the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman on Thursday morning.Later, magistrate Mostafizur Rahman recorded the statement of the complainant.According to the compliant, the three policemen entered the office room of Quality Accessories Ltd at 42/D, Haji Abdul Sarkar Lane in Bangshal on October 20 and demanded Tk5 lakh as toll from the owner of the company, Mokbul Hossain.The policemen threatened to arrest Mokbul saying that they had found Yaba tablets in his office unless he met their toll demand.Later, Mokbul gave them Tk3.50 lakh taking a signature on a blank sheet of paper, said the complaint.
