2 Nigerians among 5 of fraud gang held in city

Police arrested five members including two Nigerians of a fraud gang from the city’s New Market area on Friday night.
The arrestees are: two Nigerians, Anayo, 29, and Esi Aka Henry, 29, and three locals Mainul Kabir, 29, Nazim Uddin, 37, and Ruhul Amin alias Mithu, 29, police said.
Detective Branch (DB) personnel arrested them in connection with a case filed with New Market Police Station.
Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said acting on a tip-off a special squad of plainclothes police raided the New Market area and arrested them.
The members of the fraud gang in connivance with each other took Taka 40 lakh from Momtaj Begum, senior officer of Elephant Road branch of Dutch Bangla Bank Ltd.
Police on Saturday seeking remand of the arrested persons before a Dhaka court.
After the hearing, the court granted three-day remand for Mainul and Nazimuddin, while two Nigerians Anayo and Henry and Ruhul Amin on two-day.
