2 held with forex, gold at HSIA

Customs Intelligence and Armed Police Battalion (APBn) officials in separate drives seized 13 gold bars weighing 1.5 kilograms and foreign currencies worth Tk 34 lakh in the city’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Sunday. They also detained two persons in the drives.
The arrested persons have been identified as Zakir Hossain, and Shushangkar Mallik, 27, inhabitant of Nawabganj upazila under Dhaka district, customs officials said.
Custom Intelligence Director General Moinul Khan confirmed the matter and said that a team of customs intelligence conducted a drive on a secret information around 2:30pm and arrested Zakir with 13 gold bars in city. He came from Riyadh by a flight of SV-808. They searched his body and found the gold bars hidden in his pockets.
The customs officials said that Zakir arrived in the airport around 12:10pm by a flight of Saudi Airlines from Riyadh.
In another incident, members of the APBn arrested a youth along with foreign currencies worth Tk 34 lakh at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital.
APBn sources said, acting on a tip-off, a team of intelligence officials arrested Shushangkar near the boarding bridge as they suspected his movement.
Later, intelligence officials seized currencies of Saudi Riyal, United Arab Emirates’ Dirham, Malaysian Ringgit and Singaporian Dollar after searching Shushangkar’s shoes in a black trolley.
