Zila Parishad polls fair, peaceful: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad on Wednesday said the countrywide Zila Parishad election was held in a fair and peaceful manner. “The maiden election to Zila Parishad was held in a fair and peaceful atmosphere,” he told a post-election briefing at the Election Commission Secretariat. The CEC said elected representatives of different local government bodies cast their votes in the Zila Parishad polls. The balloting was held from 9am to 2pm without any break, he added. The Election Commission arranged election to 61 Zila Parishads (district councils) across the country except three Chittagong Hill Tracks districts – Rangamati, Khagrachhari and Bandarban.
