A suspected thief was burnt alive while four business outlets were burnt in a devastating fire at College More of Hanua village under Monirampur upazila in Jashore early Sunday.
The fire burnt to ashes the grocery shop owned Jainal Abedin while business outlets owned by Motaleb Gazi and Kashem Gazi were partially burnt. Slahuddin Mia, acting in-charge, Monirampur fire service and civil defense, told that being informed by the locals the firefighters doused the fire trying hard for one hour and 20 minutes since 2am.
‘The body of a youth was found dead at the spot,’ he added,’ the fire could be originated form electric short circuit as he (victim) touched the live wire in the dark.’
Perhaps the man entered the business outlet for theft, the fire service official further said. Mokarram Hossain, officer in-charge, Monirampur police station told that the unidentified thief aged about 26 was burnt alive in the fire.
