UNB, Dhaka :
A writ petition was filed seeking a High Court order to stop the collection of tenants’ information through the owners of rented out apartments.
Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua filed the petition with the relevant section of the High Court on Thursday. A High Court bench is expected to hear the petition on Sunday next.
Earlier on Monday, Jyotirmoy Barua sent a legal notice to the Law Secretary, Home Secretary, Inspector General of Police
and Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police requesting the police to restrain its programme of collecting tenants’ information through the house and apartment owners.
The lawyer told reporters that as a law-abiding citizen he is willing to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies, though the cooperation they are calling for in this regard is nothing of their legal concern. “The police have no legal scope to demand personal information in this manner,” he added.
