Business Desk :
Shahina Akter – a woman entrepreneur in Chattogram – launched the company Aegis Shield in 2020 and her factory began making quality leather belts, wallets and ladies purses. But sales soon plummeted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Shahina, however, endured the impact of the novel coronavirus. She can now be found showcasing her products at the five-day cottage, micro, small and medium enterprise (CMSME) fair for women entrepreneurs at port city’s Hotel Agrabad.
Visitors and customers are flocking to Shahina’s stall at the fair, and the sales volume is meeting her expectations too. Like Shahina, women entrepreneurs at forty stalls are showing off their products at the event – organised by the Chittagong Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Their sales, which had previously slowed down to a crawl due to the pandemic, have been revitalised by the fair, and their goods – some imported and others produced domestically – are now enjoying renewed popularity.
The fair began on 10 February, giving women entrepreneurs the spotlight to sell their products. The chamber is also organising discussions and seminars each day to encourage these women into rebuilding their businesses.
Visiting the fair on 13 February, The Business Standard witnessed that the event venue was buzzing with activity.
