The sale of winter clothes has gained momentum due to severe cold persisting across Dupchanchia Upazila in Bogra district from last week. People of the area see sharp rise in the sale of warm clothes especially at makeshift shops, as the winter has set in.
While visiting this correspondent found that low income people throng to different low price markets of the district everyday to buy winter clothes before the mercury falls further that can push the prices up a bit. Price of warm clothes is still affordable for the people of the area. A number of makeshift warm clothes at Zobeda Shopping Complex, Nurul Haque new market, Alhaj Abul chairman market, Shakider super market, area in Dupchanchia town where buyers were found browsing and buying winter clothes.
The traders, however, hinted that the prices of warm clothes has seen a rise from early January as bone chilling is approaching fast in the district. To mitigate the cold , the customers of all ages are seen making gathering in the sophisticated markets of the Choumuhohi, Taluch, Dhaphat and Talora bazar from very early to late at night.
People here are busy buying their winter clothes early this season because every year prices go up with the fall of temperature, said, Nurul Islam, 56, at Banduria village of the upazila. Low earning people are thronging at makeshift shops to pick up their desired winter clothes at a minimum price, he added.
Winter clothes traders of different markets also admitted early bumper business this season, said shopkeepers Mukter, propitor of Riamuni garments. Away in Dupchanchia, arrival of winter has pushed up sale of warm clothes at makeshift shops at different places in the upazila.
