An indigenous man was killed in an attack by a herd of wild elephants at Gandhigaon village in Jhenigati upazila on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Chandrashekhar Cooch, 35, a farmer of the village.
Quoting witnesses, police said a herd of 30/40 elephants came down from the hill and started damaging the standing crops in the area of the village.
When the local people tried to drive out the elephants they attacked them at about 7:30 pm.
At one stage, an elephant attacked Chandrashekhar and trampled him, leaving him critically injured.
Later he was rushed to Jhenigati Upazila Health Complex where attending doctors declared him dead.
Biplab Kumar Saha, officer-in-charge of Jhenigati Police Station, confirmed the incident.
