Eid brings no joy for river erosion victims in Kurigram

The holy Eid-ul -Azha has shattered joy of Eid of about two thousand river erosion hit people in Kurigram district.
Rivers Teesta,Dharla, Dudkumer and Brahmaputra have damaged river side croplands and eroded houses leaving the people homeless and landless in the recent flood.
They took shelter on dykes, road sides as well as high lands and leading their lives in sun-human condition as their all assets including houses have gone into the river beds. Talking to Mokbul , 45 and Rahima Khatun , 48 of Panchgachi area under Sadar upazila said, that their houses were eroded by the Dharla river three times . They are also living in the river side but they are completely homeless in this year due to devastating river erosion. Sources said, about two thousand people were rendered homeless by the river erosion at Rajibpur, Roumari,Chilmari,Ulipur and Kurigram Sadar upazila.
In the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha they have no ability to purchase new clothes for their near and dear ones .They have not received any financial assistance from government and non government organizations on the eve of Eid.
Jute , paddy seed distributed among 520 farmers
Jute seed and paddy seed have been distributed among 520 farmers whose lands were damaged in the flood in Kurigram. Rangpur Jute and Paramanu Research Center jointly formally distributed among the farmers in Kurigram Sadar upazila parishad office premises on Monday.
Additional Director of Department of Agriculture Extension pf Rangpur region Zulfikar Haider was present as the chief guest while Kurigram Sadar upazila Nirbahi Officer Aminul Islam was presided over the function.
