UNB, Dhaka :
Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has demanded the government remove the scope of whitening black money in the upcoming national budget (2016-17).
TIB also voiced concern over the demand for the continuation of whitening black money in the budget raised by influential quarters, saying it is totally unethical, unfair and contrary to the constitution. In a statement on Tuesday, TIB executive director Iftekharuzzaman said giving opportunity to whiten black money is contrary to Section 20(2) of the constitution and meaningless from the perspective of revenue collection.
Giving any scope to legalise illegal money is an example of moral degradation, he said, adding that the long experiences from the past show such dishonest practice never benefits the country’s economy and it will not play any positive role in revenue collection of the government as well. Iftekhar said if any unethical and unconstitutional scope of whitening black money is allowed in the upcoming budget bowing down to the pressure of influential quarters, the government will break its pledges given in the Vision 2021, the 7th Five-Year Plan and the National Integrity Strategy.
