A video clip of the torture caused nationwide outrage after it went viral on the internet. The investigation officer SMP Inspector Suranjit Talukder submitted the chargesheet on Aug 16 accusing 13 for the killing.
The accused are Kamrul Islam, his brothers Ali Haider, Shamim Ahmed and Muhit Alam, local watchman Moyna Mia, Dulal Mia, Ruhul Amin, Taj Uddin Ahmed Badal, Nur Mia, Firoz Mia, Ajmat Ullah, Pavel Ahmed and Ayaj Ali. Muhit’s wife Lipi Begum and brother-in-law Islami Hossain were initially arrested after the murder. But they were excluded from the chargesheet as police did not find any proof of their involvement.
