UNB, Habiganj :The video footage of a minor newspaper vendor being tortured after having been tied with a tree in Nabiganj upazila on a petty theft charge has triggered an angry outcry.Police detained three people for interrogation after the video clip of the incident that occurred on Friday went viral on the social networking site Facebook.The video footage showed Misbah Chowdhury, brother of Mohammad Chowdhury, owner of Habib Restaurant situated at Kamargaon Bazar, beating Dabir Hossain, 13, after tying him with a tree.On information, local UP chairman and others rescued the minor boy.A youth, Rezaul, took the video clip of the incident through his mobile phone and uploaded it on the social networking site. Locals said Dabir, son of Ison Ullah of Bonkadipur village in the upazila, sells newspapers in Kamargaon Bazar, Signboard, Ziapur and Natun Bazar areas.Around 10am on Friday, he sold a newspaper to Mohammad Chowdhury. As the restaurant owner did not pay him for the newspaper, the vendor took a packet of biscuit from the restaurant.Later, Misbah called Dabir to the restaurant and then took him to a secluded place where he tied the boy with a tree and unleashed torture on him.Officer-in-Charge of Nabiganj Police Station Abdul Baten Khan said they detained three people for interrogation. However, no case was filed in this connection, he said, adding that they were investigating the incident with utmost importance.
