UNB, Munshiganj :
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) on Saturday imposed a ban on plying of passengers-carrying vessels on Mawa-Kawrakandi and Daulatdia-Paturia routes due to inclement weather.
“BIWTA stopped plying of launches and sea boats (on Mawa-Kawrakandi route) at 11 am due to strong currents in the river Padma,” said Mawa Naval Traffic Inspector Jahangir Hossain.
Besides, operation of three ferries has remained suspended on the river route due to the same reason, said BIWTA official AKM Ashikuzzaman Chowdhury, adding that the three ferries will resume operation with change in weather condition.
He, however, said operation of nine other ferries, including the Ro Ro ones, is continuing.
Similarly, BIWTA authorities restricted movement of all vessels on Daulatdia-Paturai route at 6:45 pm.
Bus passengers from different districts who gathered on ghat (terminal) to cross the river were asked to go back.
