One held with firearms in C’nawabganj

CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested an alleged firearms peddler with six pistols, four magazines and 13 bullets from Hudmapara Mollatola village under Shibganj upazila in the district early yesterday morning. BGB sources said the arrested person is Md. Anwarul Islam, 45, son of Late Abul Hossain of the aforesaid area. Acting on a tip off, a team of the BGB from Ajmatpur border outpost raided the house of Anwarul around 3-30 am and arrested him with the arms and ammunition. Later, the arrested person was handed over to the police, reports BSS.

Passport Services Week ends in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA: Passport Services Week-2018 ended in the district as elsewhere in the country yesterday with a call to provide passport related services to the clients without any hassle. On Thursday, deputy commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Pal addressed the concluding ceremony as the chief guest with assistant director of the office Mehedi Hasan in the chair. Marking the week, the Regional Passport Office (RPO) here under the department of Immigration and Passport chalked out the elaborate programmes, said an official of the office here. The programmes included building arches at the main gate of the office and other important places of the district town, pasting posters, installing festoons and banners, illuminating the office and creating good environment at the office. The programmes also included providing the best and quality services to the clients, ensuring the usage of client satisfaction register, publicity on the importance of the week and holding concluding ceremony marking the week. Earlier, additional deputy commissioner (General) Muhammad Mizanaur Rahman inaugurated the week on February 04, reports BSS.

Mid-day meal programme in Mymensingh Divn starts

MYMENSINGH: Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman aid all primary schools under Mymensingh division will be brought under mid-day meal programme by June this year recently. “The government is committed to ensure development of primary education and has been spending more for its infrastructural development ” he told a discussion here. Primary and mass Education Dr. Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal chaired the discussion. Divisional Commissioner GM Saleh uddin, Director General NAP Shah Alam, Director Bijoy Bhushan Paul, Director Md. Shaber Hossain addressed the discussion as special guests. The minister said improvement of both quality and quantity of primary education could be vital means of enriching the list of skilled human resources beside attaining Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The present government has set a target of hundred percent enrollment in the class, decrease of dropout rate and ensuring quality of primary education, he added. He urged the teachers and concerned officials to perform their duty sincerely in order to ensure quality of education, reports BSS.

Sewing machines distributed among beggars in Khulna

KHULNA: Sewing machines, mobile grocery shops and cash were distributed among beggars on the premises of circuit house here recently. Chief Coordinator for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Affairs in the Prime Minister’s Office Md Abul Kalam Azad was present at the function as the chief guest. Organised by Rehabilatation Association for beggar free society and employment for beggar, Khulna divisional commissioner Lokman Hossain Mia, Khulna deputy commissioner Amin-ul-Ahsan, Khulna city unit Muktijuddha commandar Professor Alamgir were present on the function, among others.The chief guest, in his speech, said strong moral is essential for quitting begging which is shamful for any human being. “The society will be begger-free if affluent people take responsibility for the rehabilitation of beggars,” he said.
