Runa Akter is a 3rd year student of Jagannath University English department. She had to pass a life of suffering, heartsore and misery to come to the dreamed University area. She was born in Uttor Shahpur village of Gazaria upazila under Munshigonj district. Her father Harun-ur-Rashid was a poor farmer and mother Nazma Begum, housewife. Among four sisters Runa was first in the poor family. From childhood, Runa has a passion to be a star of her family and dreamed to place her in a position to achieve her right.
Runa said, “It was so hard to my father to maintain a family by only his own income.” As she has no brother she and her sisters had to suffer much. They did not get proper facilities to build up career like other classmates. Still, Runa passed her primary session scoring GPA-S which was the first step in her dream. Then she enrolled herself in Hazi Keramot Ali high School and achieved Telentpool Scholarship in Class-VIII.
She says, “My family has no such ability to appoint special teachers for my study; rather I had to manage tuition as source of income and as first girl of my family had to manage family tasks also.”
In 2012, Runa completed her SSC examination (Science Group) from that School scoring GPA-5 and placing herself in 2nd position of Gazaria Upazila.
After that a strong storm confronted her. When she was 16, her father arranged “her marriage with a School Teacher named Manik Miah, but she could not let anyone mess with her education. At first, she tried to stop it through talks with her parents, telling them about negative consequences of early marriage, but in vain. Thus she had to get married. Instead of going to College she had to go to her husband’s house as bride. But this marriage could not destroy her dream of establishing her in better place. She tried to continue her study maintaining her new family. Runa says, “I am grateful to my husband who supports me to continue my study. My steadiness and assiduity made my current life.”
Managing the family she regularly concentrates to her study as much as possible. In 2014, she completed her Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) from Gazaria Kalim Ullah Degree College obtaining GPA 5 from Science background.
After completing her HSC examination, she became pregnant and gave birth to her first son Mustafizur Rahman Muaz. She had to face her University admission test when her son was only three years old. Without attending any coaching center she got herself admitted into Department of English of Jagannath University. Besides, her mother-in-law had brain stroke three years ago and she can’t conduct a normal life for this disease. That’s why Runa couldn’t stay in Dhaka. She used to bear six hours journey every working day Gazaria-Jagannath University. Her mother takes care of her son when she goes to University regularly and her husband supports her a lot.
“I might have to stop my journey of education like other married girls but I did not do that. I know if I continue my studies, I will become independent.”
She further added. “I want to be a University Teacher. “She is confident to fulfill her cherished dream through the co-operation of her family members and good wishes of all concerned.”
Now, Runa Akter is in the 1st position in English department of Jagannath University obtaining CGPA-3.77. n
