Constable hurt in ‘drug peddlers’ attack in city

A police constable was severely injured when some alleged drug peddlers attacked him in Babubazar area in the city’s old Dhaka.
The injured man was identified as Waliullah, 45, constable of court police. He was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Police also nabbed three gang members– Rezaul, Rakib and Rana, police said.
Badrul Hasan, Assistant Commissioner (Kotwali Circle) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police said, “Some six to seven miscreants attacked Waliullah at
around 12:30am near the Babubazar Bridge when he was going to Dhaka District Judge’s Court. Hearing screams of Waliullah, locals along with the help of duty police went to the spot and nabbed three attackers.”
“Waliullah suffered knife injuries in his back.” “He was in civil dress during the attack.”
Police suspect that the detainees might have link in drug peddling and mugging, the police official said.
The law enforcers also seized a knife from their possession, he added.
